Launceston Male Voice Choir
The Launceston Male Voice Choir was formed in 1969, and is now over 50 years young. The Choir has a membership of between 40 and 50, and has a repertoire of almost 100 pieces covering both modern and traditional styles.
The membership are drawn from a very wide area of both North and East Cornwall and also parts of West Devon. Our main base is in Launceston and we meet to practice in the Central Methodist Church schoolroom at 7.30pm on Wednesday evenings.
In a normal year we perform at around 20 events, mainly in support of of local charities or organisations. In most years we have an annual tour over a weekend to other parts of the country with all our good friends and supporters and perform either one or two concerts then. We have sung in both Gloucester and Wells Cathedrals, as well as in Malvern and Sherborne Abbey.
Each year we host a ‘Taster’ evening when would-be choir members join us for a ‘fun’ evening to see if joining a Choir is for them.
Most return – as our type of Choral singing is friendly and sociable.
The Launceston Male Voice Choir was formed in 1969 and has a current membership of some 40 choristers, with a repertoire extending to over 90 pieces and covering a wide variety of traditional and modern material.
We are fortunate to have as our base the Central Methodist Church in our home town, where we are able to use the superb hall as our rehearsal room and the main church for our home concerts, which regularly attract a capacity audience of 350.
We perform around 20 concerts a year, mainly in West Devon and East Cornwall, as well as going away on an annual tour to other parts of the country.
We are always happy to see new members and offer a warm welcome to all beginners and experienced singers.
We are a friendly, sociable group and many good friends have been made through the choir and singing together.
So, come along and have a go or just listen and then join in…we meet at 7.30pm on Wednesday in the Central Methodist Church rooms.
